Motorexpo 2008 at the World Financial Centre, New York

Since its launch in 1996, the Motorexpo has grown at an astonishing rate and was the biggest auto show in the UK during 2007. Graeme Carver, Motorexpo President and Show Creator, evaluates the development of the show's unusual format and the growth of both its venue and audience which has now lead to the motor show like no other becoming established as a truly international event.

"It seems like only a couple of years ago that we ran the first Motorexpo at Canary Wharf. The fact is, however, that the first show took place in June 1996 and during the thirteen intervening years the expansion of the event has been remarkable. What lies behind the UK show's development is both the continued growth of our direct audience and the Canary Wharf estate itself. Indeed, as business has continued to view Canary Wharf as the ideal location for office relocation, so the Motorexpo's development has soared and I am delighted to confirm that these trends will continue in the years to come."

"This past June at the 2008 Canary Wharf London Motorexpo we unveiled a display that featured many of the world’s leading motor manufacturers including Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche to name just a few; looking back to when we started it was a very different picture - with only 29 cars exhibited by six local dealers. I can clearly remember back in May 1996 when I posed the idea of starting such an event, but I don't think that anyone involved in the initial concept could have imagined how quickly and successfully the proposition would develop."

"The Motorexpo is an unusual show in many ways: the first is that it appeals to a business audience for whom time is a very precious commodity and yet they are also major spenders when it comes to purchasing the latest in vehicle technology. The second difference has to be our unique settings, since Canary Wharf is regarded by many as the primary focal point for business in the UK and now with the World Financial Center set to host Motorexpo we are delighted that our venues are quite simply two of the most significant business locations in the world."

"The differences between Motorexpo and the more mainstream style of auto shows extend much deeper into almost every area of the show's operation. For 2008 in London we saw a record number of exhibitors providing test drives at the show and interactive features such as the Land Rover experience. Nearly one third of all our visitors are based in the offices at our business locations and for these individuals the Motorexpo is a week when their normal working environments are transformed into giant showrooms for the latest vehicles. Despite the recent financial turbulence, sales figures from the 2008 London show illustrate the success which truly underpins the genuine service that the Motorexpo event provides and I am positive we will see such results posted following our inaugural U.S. event."

"I am delighted that for 2008 we have the opportunity to deliver our unusual format of motor show on this side of the Atlantic. Given our innovative and unique set-up the Motorexpo requires a lot of hard work from a number of organizations and in addition to the Battery Park City Authority and The Alliance for Downtown New York, I would particularly like to thank the arts>World Financial Center team since it is because of them that our event has been made possible. In Brookfield Properties we have a great partner for the years ahead and we are excited to be producing what will become one of the single biggest annual events to be staged in Lower Manhattan."
