There will be a number of UK and world debuts at the 2008 Canary Wharf London Motorexpo. Here are just some of our favourites...
Alfa Romeo Brera S
|
Alfa Romeo has chosen this year’s Canary Wharf Motoexpo for the debut of its
limited edition Alfa Brera S, designed specifically for the UK market. Forged in
partnership with world-renowned British motorsport specialists, Prodrive, the
outcome is a range-topping addition to the Alfa Brera line-up. After a year of
intensive suspension and chassis development at Prodrive, the result is a sports
coupé that subtly enhances all that is good about the original Alfa Brera and
bestows it with outstanding driver feedback and handling on UK roads.
Based on the award-winning Alfa Brera, this unique addition to the British
line-up includes distinct yet refined styling changes, inside and out, to
differentiate it from the range. A lowered ride height, unique lightweight 19”
alloys, discreet badging and monikered chrome tailpipes combine with interior
enhancements including soft black Frau® leather interior. To ensure ultimate
exclusivity, production of the Alfa Brera S will be limited to just 500 models.
Two existing petrol engines will power the Alfa Brera S models – the 185bhp
2.2 JTS and the 260bhp 3.2 JTS.

Confederate B120 Wraith
|
Having secured the exclusive rights to import Confederate motorcycles into
the UK, the team at RSVR Racing will mark their first attendance at the Canary
Wharf Motorexpo in 2008 with UK show debuts of both the B120 Wraith and F131
Hellcat Combat.
Founded in 1991 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana by Matt Chambers, the Confederate
Motor Company set out to create machines utilizing a holistic, avant-garde
process for celebrating the art of rebellion. Motorcycles have long represented
rugged individualism and the Confederate machines evoke principled individuality
through simple, pure, minimal, skeletal form language, which is at once, technical
and primitive.
At this year’s Motorexpo bike-lovers will get the opportunity to get up close
and personal with the machine that the management of Confederate describe as being
“Quite simply, the world's most luxurious, sporting two-wheeled device.”
The F131 Hellcat Combat will be presented as a limited edition variant of the second
and final generation of the Hellcat series. The Combat features a specific hand ported
and polished head design, special camshaft grind, returned intake system, which harmoniously
results in a 12% gain in rear wheel horsepower and a 4% increase in rear wheel torque.
RSVR Racing’s Confederate display will be positioned within the marble lobby of One
Canada Square for the duration of the 2008 Canary Wharf Motorexpo.

Canary Wharf Motorexpo and will also receive its UK show premier.

Volvo XC60
|
Volvo's XC60 crossover will make its UK show debut at the 2008 Canary Wharf
Motorexpo. Boasting an exciting mix of two car styles, the Volvo XC60 steps
boldly into what is the motoring world’s toughest and fastest-growing segment.
Sporting capable XC muscles, it combines a strong athletic body with high ground
clearance and large wheels, while the flowing lines create the sporty charisma
of a coupe.
The major safety news is City Safety, a standard feature on the XC60 – a unique
system that can help the driver avoid or reduce the effects of the type of low-speed
impacts that are common in city traffic and traffic tailbacks. If the car is about to
drive into the vehicle in front and the driver does not react, the car brakes itself.
The Volvo XC60 is the first car that stops traffic. And itself.
In dealer showrooms from October 2008, the Volvo XC60 will be launched with a choice
of three engines: the turbocharged T6 which produces 285PS, and two variants of the D5
turbo diesel, producing 185 and 163 horsepower respectively.

Kahn Cosworth Range Rover Sport
|
At the 2008 Canary Wharf Motorexpo Kahn Design are proud to unveil their breathtaking
Kahn Cosworth Range Rover Sport, featuring powerful, aggressive aesthetic modifications
hinting at the substantial power that has been unlocked by the race born ingenuity of
Cosworth.
Influenced by the visual drama and flamboyance of the Ford Cosworths of the late 80’s
and early 90’s, Afzal Kahn’s vision of a 4x4 supercar really stands out as unique. The
bespoke 22” wheels, flared arches, aggressive front spoiler and aerodynamic rear valance
give the vehicle a sense of excitement and purpose. Key to the vehicle's identity is the
rear wing as, without it, it just wouldn’t be a Cosworth.
The first cars available will be based on the TDV8 with a 600bhp version of the new
5L V8 in the pipeline.

Volkswagen Touareg R50
|
The Volkswagen Touareg R50 – which offers customers more power and equipment, and
boasts one of the most powerful diesel engines available on the market – will receive
its UK show debut at the 2008 Canary Wharf Motorexpo.
At the heart of the R50 is Volkswagen’s award-winning 5.0-litre V10 TDI engine,
uprated from 313 PS to produce 350 PS at 3,500 rpm. Beyond the power output, the R50’s
engine has also been given a substantial boost to produce an extra 100 Nm of torque:
if the standard car’s 750 Nm was more than enough to enable the Touareg to tow a Boeing
747, pulling power of an enormous 850 Nm (627 lbs ft) sets the R50 yet further apart
from the crowd.
Distinguishing the R50 from the previous range-topper, the Altitude V10 TDI, are a
set of 21-inch ‘Omanyt’ ten-spoke alloy wheels as well as the Touareg ‘R’ design package.
This includes at the back a body-coloured roof spoiler, restyled body-coloured bumper and
oval tailpipe trims. Wheel arch extensions and blue brake callipers enhance the distinctive
wheels, while at the front the R50 gains a matt chrome radiator grille and louvres as well
as honeycomb-style inserts in the airdams.
Inside, and on top of the Altitude V10’s already luxurious specification, the R50 has
‘R’ logos on the pedals, door sill protectors and Nappa leather sports seats, as well as
heated outer rear seats, a ski sack and a net partition.

Land Rover Defender SVX
|
In celebration of their 60th Anniversary, one of the highlights of the Land Rover
display at the 2008 Canary Wharf Motorexpo will be the anniversary edition
Defender, the SVX.
With metallic black paintwork and subtle satin black graphic decals, the Defender
SVX is available in both 90 soft-top and 90 station wagon versions. Distinctive exterior
features have a contrasting silver finish, such as the unique 'Defender' and 'SVX' badges,
tubular side-steps and the bold surround for the front grille and new clear-lens headlamps.
All vehicles will also feature new, 'diamond turned' five-spoke alloy wheels, a reinforced
aluminium front undershield and clear LED rear lights.
To bring the SVX interiors right up-to-date, they are equipped with custom-designed Recaro
front seats, distinctive alloy gear knobs, a new audio system (with subwoofer and USB socket),
iPod cradle and Garmin satellite navigation. The soft-top models are especially eye-catching,
with a metallic silver tubular cage that supports a tailor-made, removable black fabric hood.
This encloses a flat load-space and a spare wheel stowed behind the front seats, reminiscent of
the very first open-top Land Rovers. Each SVX model for the UK will also come fitted with an
individually numbered plaque.

Porsche Cayenne GTS
|
Recognised to be the benchmark sports SUV, the Porsche Cayenne has a unique spread of
abilities that enables it to perform at the top of its class both on and off-road. The new
Cayenne GTS, which went on-sale in February this year, brings a greater focus to road
performance with a lower centre of gravity, more power and a sport based specification.
The 4.8-litre V8 engine from the Cayenne S has been further developed, with revisions to
the air intake and engine management systems resulting in an additional 20 bhp of power.
This delivers a total power output of 405 bhp and means 0-62 mph in a staggering 6.1 seconds
with manual transmission and 6.5 seconds with the optional six-speed Tiptronic S.
Uniquely, the new Cayenne GTS rides 24mm lower than the rest of the Cayenne range,
resulting in a lower centre of gravity, minimised drag coefficient and a purposeful
visual impact on-road.
With a strong focus on high-end road performance, the new Cayenne GTS offers sports
car handling combined with the practicality inherent in the Cayenne range. This exciting
new model is priced from £54,350, inclusive of a Porsche Vehicle Tracking System and a
half day Porsche Driving Experience.
