Since its launch in 1996, the Motorexpo has grown at an astonishing rate. Graeme Carver, Motorexpo Managing Director, evaluates the development of the show's unusual format and the growth of both its venue and audience.
"It seems like only a couple of years ago that we ran the first Motorexpo at Canary Wharf. The fact is, however, that the first show took place in June 1996 and during the twelve intervening years the expansion of the event has been remarkable. What lies behind the show's development is both the continued growth of our direct audience and the Canary Wharf estate itself. Indeed as business has continued to view Canary Wharf as the ideal location for office relocation, so the Motorexpo's development has soared and promises to do so in the years to come.
The Motorexpo is an unusual show in many ways: the first is that it appeals to a business audience for whom time is a very precious commodity and yet they are also major spenders when it comes to purchasing the latest in vehicle technology. The second difference has to be our unique setting, being the wealthiest postcode in Britain and also an estate that is regarded by many as the primary focal point for business in the UK.
The differences between Motorexpo and the more mainstream style of motor shows extend much deeper into almost every area of the show's operation. For 2007 we saw a record number of exhibitors providing test drives at the show as well as a host of interactive feature such as the Land Rover experience. In addition, visitors to the Motorexpo enjoyed visiting the 200 shops, bars and restaurants that are conveniently located within the shopping malls at Canary Wharf.
Nearly one third of all our visitors are based in the offices at Canary Wharf and for these individuals the Motorexpo is a week when the estate is transformed into a giant showroom for the latest vehicles. Exceptional sales figures from the 2007 event illustrate the success which truly underpins the genuine service that the Motorexpo event provides.
The rapid development of Canary Wharf over the years has meant that new buildings and public spaces have presented motor manufacturers with additional opportunities to bring more of the latest models to the people who work at and visit Canary Wharf. Manufacturers now have a choice of areas within which they can exhibit their latest vehicles, whether it be the iconic marble lobby of One Canada Square, the landscaped parks or the stylish paved squares that exist throughout the estate.
We look forward to another great event in 2008 and look forward to welcoming Motorexpo visitors to the Canary Wharf estate."
